This chapter demonstrates how to apply the theoretical models and analytical/numerical methods of structural impact dynamics to investigate engineering problems. It illustrates the analysis of a special sandwich structure called “tensor skin”. The total response of tensor skin is divided into three stages: an elastic deformation stage of the whole structure; an unfolding stage of the tensor ply; and a stretching stage of the tensor ply. Cellular solids mean an assembly of cells with solid edges or faces, packed together so that they fill space for example wood, cork, sponge, and coral are all cellular solids existing in nature. Recently a lot of synthetic cellular solids have also appeared. The superior performance of sandwich plates relative to monolithic solid plates is well known for applications requiring high quasi‐static strength. Collisions of moving deformable bodies on solid targets frequently occur in engineering, daily life, and sports.
