Prevention of Steel Corrosion by Concrete
This article discusses a study by the American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association with the overall objective of explaining the principles by which concrete prevents corrosion. Specific objectives were to examine the types of exposure conditions that lessen this protective capacity, and to discover methods by which to preserve the protective effect. Tests were made to determine whether bond between steel and concrete was reduced or destroyed by cathodic protection. In another test, the voltage was applied so that the center electrode was the cathode.
