In this chapter, the author shares the discussion he had in an interview with Marsha Maytum. In the decades since, the author have enjoyed following the success of her own firm Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects (LMS A ). In 2017, LMS A was recognized with the national Architecture Firm Award by the American Institute of Architects. Dedicated to addressing issues of resource depletion, climate change, historic preservation, and social equity, LMS A and its leadership clearly demonstrate that architects can help their communities adapt to a complex and rapidly changing world. In the interview, Marsha shares her perspectives on the importance of developing “citizen architects,” the ingredients of a teaching practice, the firm's emphasis on mentorship, and how shared values are an essential foundation of the collaborative design culture at LMS A .
