Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
Outer walls and roofs compose the building envelope, whose main function is to shield the conditioned indoors from the variable, often discomfortable outdoors. The comfort, building users experience, benefits from an envelope ensuring air‐tightness, energy efficiency and moisture tolerance. Various wall types are discussed: massive, cavity, panelised, metal‐based and timber‐frame. For roofs, the division could be based on the shape, low‐slope or pitched, or on the cover. This chapter covers the structural integrity and the building physics related requirements.
