Fundamentals of Structural Optimization
A brief introduction to structural optimization methods is provided. An overview of different structural optimization approaches and their coarse classification into topology optimization, shape optimization, and sizing are given. The general optimization problem is formulated and described, and the general procedure of an optimization is explained. In particular, the Lagrange function for the mathematical treatment of constrained optimization problems is presented. Different approaches for the sensitivity analysis are discussed as well as methods for solving the optimization problem using mathematical programming or optimality criteria.
