Concerns with Daylight and Health Outcomes
Daylight, through properly designed strategies, creates a superb, dynamic quality of light that enhances the human experience of buildings and spaces while at the same time supporting a sustainable environment. Environmental attributes, including daylight, have a documented impact on human health and performance. This chapter identifies, briefly, how daylight should be utilized in interiors and defines key issues which impact healthful interiors in relation to daylighting. It then provides factual findings from research across many disciplines and demonstrates why daylight is instrumental in supporting human health. Finally, the chapter documents the importance of future research in the continued evolution of what constitutes a healthful space through the use of daylight.
