Ammoniated Salt‐Based Gas–Solid Sorption Devices
The thermochemical sorption between ammonia and metal halide is considered to be a favorable choice to develop energy conversion and storage devices. Being a natural refrigerant, ammonia does not cause any harmful effects on the environment. The availability of an extensive variety of halide salts interacting with ammonia at different operating conditions encourages their usability with solar thermal energy and other sources of waste heat like industry or automobile. Due to difference in the working temperature range of halide salts, they are classified as low‐temperature salt (LTS), medium‐temperature salt (MTS), and high‐temperature salt (HTS). The ammoniated salt sorption system can be developed by coupling halide salt with an ammonia tank which is termed the adsorption process, or by linking two halide salts between which ammonia is exchanged which is called the resorption process. This work presents the development of ammoniated salt‐based various thermochemical devices for cooling, heating, power generation, and energy storage.
