This article profiles my life and career highlights. I am an engineer who specializes in the mitigation of shock and vibration for structures of all types—from buildings and bridges to aircraft, naval vessels, and spacecraft. It is the story of how I entered the profession during the Cold War period and went on from there to invent many damping concepts.
