Influence of Site Characteristics on Quality of Impounded Water
Impoundment sites must be carefully selected with consideration given to many factors, especially water quality. This article focuses on the relationship of natural soils and forest debris to the quality of overlying water in the initial years of impoundment. The article presents data from a study of the Howard A. Hanson multi‐purpose reservoir, located about 3 miles above the city of Tacoma, Washington, water intake (27 miles east of Tacoma) on the Green River in the Cascade Mountain foothills. The data demonstrate some of the associations between original reservoir soils and the overlying water.
