Philadelphia Works With Audubon International to Protect Water Resources
This article discusses efforts by the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) to control the increasing costs of storm water management by teaming up with Audubon International to provide environmental education and training to assist private landowners and managers to better handle storm water runoff. The article mentions efforts by the town of Henrietta, New York, to work through Audubon International's Sustainable Communities Program to address the large volume of runoff produced by “hardscapes” in retail areas, and to implement Integrated Pest Management principles for the agriculture zones. The article also mentions the town of Williamston, located in rural eastern North Carolina, as becoming the first Certified Sustainable Community in North Carolina through Audubon International for its efforts at managing storm water costs by using student resources at a local community college and high school.
