Managing Costs: Understanding the Estimate
This chapter begins developing an understanding of construction costs, by describing the manner in which costs first become a component of a construction project, which is at the time when the cost estimate for the project is prepared. It is important for the supervisor to understand all aspects of construction costs, including the cycle that was presented. Additionally, it is important for the supervisor to understand the elements of the estimating process and the process of preparing a detailed estimate for a construction project. The costs that compose the estimate are the basis for the determination of which contractor will receive the contract award.
