This chapter examines London's position today in the global urban system. It draws on over 100 comparative international benchmarks and indices to evaluate the character, strengths and weaknesses of leading global cities as well as competitive ‘middleweight’ cities. It also uses trend data to gauge which of the emerging megacities may become the most advanced global hubs for trade, information and talent. The chapter then identifies ten factors of success that both established and prospective city leaderships should take into account in the new global system.
