Form is the appearance or particular condition of a body that manifests itself in a certain context. A form may be transformed but still remain within a family of forms, through adjustment of one or more of its dimensions, as either rectangular or prismatic. In general, regular solids adapt readily to subtractive treatment where elements are removed to create new spaces, voids, recesses or indents. In this way, positive and negative spaces may be created, particularly from cubic compositions. A given volume or form may be altered through the addition of components. This may be done in a number of different ways: interlocking volumes, edge‐to‐edge contact, face‐to‐face contact, and independent. Any three‐dimensional form naturally articulates the surrounding volume and creates a field of influence of its own. Vertical planes through their presence and interaction with horizontal planes are instrumental in defining discrete volumes of spaces and provide separation or enclosure.
