Operation, maintenance and repair of waterfront structures
Key elements in the life of a waterfront structure are regular inspections, evaluations and records of the condition of the structure. Building information modelling (BIM) is a cooperative way of working that uses digital models of a structure to collate and manage the data relevant to that structure over its life cycle in a consistent manner. BIM allows all the information relevant to the whole life cycle of a structure to be brought together in one model. The on‐site inspection, including estimates of residual wall thicknesses, is especially important for the assessment of the load‐bearing capacities of waterfront structures. A geotechnical specialist should assess the subsoil using the soil parameters and soil profiles. There are several potential upgrading measures that can be used to improve the load‐bearing capacities of existing waterfront structures.
