Many Voices, One Association, Immeasureable Impact
On Jan. 4, 2011 Congress enacted the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (RLDWA) as an amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act. For those less familiar with this act, it requires that meters, pipes, fittings, fixtures, and so forth must be lead‐free as defined by the act (i.e., no more than 0.25% lead at the wetted surface of the component). The requirements came into effect Jan. 4, 2014. In 2013 we proved that the water sector can successfully assemble and petition the government for a redress of public policy. This outcome and the process used to assemble as part of an association is an excellent illustration of the value of membership in AWWA.
