Well Point Systems for Ground Water Supply
This article discusses well point systems, a group of small‐diameter wells connected to a common header and pump. The well points can be installed to any depth, 60‐100 ft being not uncommon. Widespread use of well point systems for control of groundwater during construction dates from about 1924. Today in the U.S., thousands of temporary installations are made each year. With these systems, flows ranging from a few thousand to many millions of gallons per day are removed from the ground and dumped into the nearest sewer or stream. This article discusses the problems associated with temporary dewatering systems, and presents examples of successful well point systems.
