Risk: a regulator's perspective
Determination of an “acceptable level of risk” is not a quantitative scientific question, but a sociological‐political issue. A valid uniform model for estimation of health effects and a means to evaluate the diverse interests of the populace are not easily‐solved problems; but if the proper questions are identified, then research by sociologists and scientists may be more useful aids to regulators during the decision‐making process.
