ACI Com. 344 Report: Design and Construction of Circular Prestressed‐Concrete Structures
It has been nearly a decade since the American Concrete Inst. organized Com. 344 to devise a standard for circular prestressed‐concrete structures. A few years ago, the committee made its final report, and for better or worse it has often served as a guideline for building concrete water tanks.
The lead article of the four that follow briefly puts the controversy generated over applicability of the report to water tanks into perspective.
The second article succinctly describes the aims of the committee and the trials and tribulations that it suffered before a report could be generated that would muster the approval of most of the committee members.
The last two articles relate the criticisms of two men involved with prestressed‐concrete water‐tank construction, with regard to the value of the report of AWWA members.
