Reliability of Measurements of Gross Beta Radioactivity in Water
This article discusses the Analytical Reference Service Test for evaluation of gross beta radiation analysis methods with a sample consisting of cesium‐137. The participating laboratories that used internal proportional counters obtained counting rates that, when converted to activity in picocuries per liter, usually were within 20 per cent of the best estimate. Even when self‐absorption factors for mixed fission products were used, the estimates averaged less than 15 per cent higher than the best estimate.
