Die Erforschung und Weiterentwicklung der Stahlbetonbauweise sind integrale Bestandteile der Arbeiten des Instituts für Leichtbau Entwerfen und Konstruieren der Universität Stuttgart. Der Artikel beschreibt wesentliche Entwicklungsschritte dieser Forschungen und gibt einen Ausblick auf die sonstigen Arbeiten des ILEK.
The Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK): Over 100 years of research in reinforced concrete construction
The research and further development of reinforced concrete construction is an integral part of the work of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design at the University of Stuttgart. The ILEK was founded on 1.4.2001 as a result of the merger of two institutes which had set global standards in research and teaching in the field of solid construction and lightweight construction over many decades. The ILEK unites the approaches of its two predecessor institutions and consistently pursues lightweight construction research across materials and disciplines, in which concrete plays an important role. In the following article, the founding director and the new director of the ILEK jointly explain which research initially moved the institute, which topics are particularly important today – and where the focus of future work will be.
