Reclaiming Reservoir Capacity from Silt, Rocks, and Boulders - In early 1997, a severe flood and numerous rock slides dumped tons of debris and sediment into the Camino Reservoir in California, reducing its capacity by 20 percent. To reclaim reservoir capacity, Sacramento Municipal Utility District drained the reservoir, and used excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks to remove silt, rocks, and boulders.
