Heat transfer and friction characteristics of double pass solar air heater having V-shaped roughness on the absorber plate
An experimental study has been carried out for double pass solar air heater having V-shaped roughness elements on both sides of the absorber plate to examine its effect on heat transfer and friction factor. The results of roughened absorber plates were also compared with those of the smooth absorber plate. Rectangular duct is used for experimentation purpose, which is having an aspect ratio of 10. The operating and roughness parameters are relative roughness pitch (p/e) varies from 5 to 20, angle of attack (α) varies from 30° to 75°, and Reynolds number varies from 4900 to 15 000. The relative roughness height varies from 0.022 to 0.033. It is found that by providing artificial roughness, heat transfer and friction factor both enhanced considerably in comparison to the smooth one.
