Finite Element Model of Dynamic Pile Test Using Embedded Transducers
Dynamic high strain and static pile tests were performed on two auger pressure grouted piles (APGP) using a network of transducers embedded near the tops and tips of the piles. The results of the dynamic tests are presented in comparison to those of a nonlinear, finite element model that approximates the dynamic behavior of the pile-soil system. The analysis represents an alternative approach for evaluating high strain dynamic pile tests, and provides a potential technique for evaluating the mobilization of side friction and end bearing. The successful use of embedded transducers represents an opportunity for foundation to routinely measure force and acceleration at the pile top and tip during dynamic and static pile testing. Comparison of finite element results to measured parameters indicates a strong dependence on pile loading rate, and future models need to include soil resistance changes as a function of loading rate or pile velocity.
