Development of an Assessment Procedure for Permeable Pavements
The use of permeable pavements has become widespread for a sustainable urban water management, because it is a highly suitable method to reduce surface runoff. In newly developed areas in North Rhine Westphalia, legal regulations require the infiltration of rainwater into the groundwater or to discharge it into a receiving water. In Germany, two regulations exist with recommendations on how to handle rainwater, namely the body of ATV-A 138E "Construction and Dimensioning of Facilities for Decentralised Percolation of Non-Harmful Polluted Precipitation Water" and the ATV-DVWK M153 "Recommendations for the handling with rainwater". Planners of infiltration devices with permeable pavements have the possibility to affect a building permit from the minor water authority for every building project or to use type approved products. For the type approval products, the permeable pavements have to be tested and assessed regarding their range of use. The main objective of this study is to develop a test procedure, in order to be able to issue the type approval.
