A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In building airfield pavements to resist the heavy loads and thermal shock produced by improved types of aircraft, the Bureau of Yards and Docks, United States Department of the Navy, has established the testing procedures and design criteria described herein. Material must fulfil special requirements to be used on runway ends, and the structural properties of the base course and subbase for the entire runway must conform to high standards. This paper describes the requirements of such material, the types of tests used, and the principles on which the pavement construction methods are based.
