The growing demand for energy from renewable sources is expected to lead to greater construction of offshore wind farms near major coastal cities in the United States, particularly in the northeast. However, the larger turbine systems and greater water depths associated with such installations will place significant demands on wind turbine support structures and foundations. Engineers working on such installations will be challenged to develop innovative, cost-effective designs.
