Behavior of Beach Fills in New England
A study has been made of the behavior of fills placed on ten New England beaches. The study involved quantitative determinations of changes in volumes, high and low water shore line positions, and slopes. Descriptions are given of construction of the projects, wave exposure, past erosion, littoral drift, and character of beach and fill materials. Comparison is made between estimated and experienced rates of change. The difficulty in predicting the behavior of beach fills from the behavior of the original beaches is pointed out.
