Seismic Damage Analysis of Concrete Girder Bridges Subjected to Near-Fault Ground Motions
In order to reveal the damage mechanism of concrete bridges suffered from the near-fault pulse motions, firstly velocity pulse ground motions within the rupture distance of 100 km in Wenchuan earthquake are identified by a fully automated classification scheme proposed in present paper. Then, the velocity pulse characteristics of near-fault ground motions are analyzed. Finally, a multi-scale finite element model of a concrete girder bridge is established by using ABAQUS and the earthquake responses of the structure subjected to the near-fault pulse and near-fault non-pulse motions are simulated, respectively. The results show that the predominant periods are apparently different between the pulse and non-pulse motions in terms of the velocity response spectrum. Compared with the non-pulse motions in the near-fault region, the pulse motions greatly affect the seismic damages of the bridge.
