System-Equivalent-Mass Based Post-Tensioned Anchor Tension Testing Technique
This paper introduces a new nondestructive method for measuring anchor tension based on the equivalent-mass concept. The authors postulated that, when a bonded anchor was subjected to excitation through the anchor head, the induced vibration system would depend on the tension force of the anchor. Experiments performed by the authors demonstrate that the mass participating in the free vibration indeed increases with larger anchor tension forces. On this basis, the authors developed a "system-equivalent-mass" theory (TTEM) suitable for measuring tensions of bonded rock anchors. Recent verification tests showed that this new rapid testing technique is uniquely suitable for many practical applications.
