Sedimentation in Retarding Basin
The amount of sediment that has been deposited in the Miami Conservancy District retarding basins after more than 40 yr of flood-control storage is investigated. The size of the particles of deposited sediment with relation to the detention time as first studied by Lane in 1939 is further investigated. Useful life and trap efficiency are also considered. In general, sedimentation has not significantly reduced the capacity of the Miami Conservancy District's retarding basins for flood-control purposes.
