Adhesion of Ceramic Claddings on the Façades of Residential Buildings
Currently, building façades using ceramic cladding made of clinker tiles are becoming increasingly popular in residential construction. This solution is valued for its aesthetics and, if done correctly, durability. To maintain proper durability, it is essential to ensure proper adhesion between the cladding and the substrate; otherwise, the tiles may detach. This study presents a case involving the failure of cladding made of small-sized tiles from the façade of a complex of four new multifamily buildings, consisting of three four-story buildings and one seven-story building. The study includes the results of tests conducted on samples taken from the façade and analyzed in a laboratory. The causes of tile detachment were determined based on the analysis of the collected information and obtained research results. Remedial measures were recommended to address and eliminate the existing risks associated with the detachment of these tiles.
