Shaking Table Tests on Geocell-Reinforced Model Walls
The usage of reinforced retaining walls is developing all around the world. Additionally, the variety of reinforced walls would increase by improving polymer science and introducing new reinforcement types. This paper studied the seismic behavior of geocell-reinforced retaining walls using shake table tests. Four models were subjected to variable–amplitude harmonic excitations in two main stages. The primary variable includes the effect of geocell facing configuration on the walls’ seismic response as the main component of retaining structure. Results showed two primary failure mechanisms, overturning and bulging. Also, lateral displacements and settlements would decrease by changing the configuration and using more geocells in the wall’s top layers.
