Rock Mechanics Engineering for Boundary Project
The application of rock mechanics to the design of an arch dam and an underground power plant is presented. The paper describes rock tests and their evaluation, derivation of design criteria, determination of rock stresses, and stability analyses performed for arch dam abutments and underground openings. An account is given of the instrumentation and monitoring of underground excavations and of variations of the design made during construction.
