A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This paper presents an experimental study of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete beam to concrete-filled steel tube column connections with ring-beam. Three specimens are tested under low cyclic loading conditions. The displacements, stresses, failure patterns, and energy dissipation capacities of the tested specimens are studied. In addition, the influence on the sectional dimension of the ring beam is investigated. To validate the experimental results, numerical simulation is also conducted to compare the stress distributions of the joints with and without the ring beam. It is shown that damages of the joints with the ring beam develop as the longitudinal bar inside the reinforced concrete frame beam begins to yield. On the other hand, the concrete-filled steel tube column is found to behave essentially in the linear range and no significant damage is observed in the reinforced concrete ring beam. It is also noticed that plastic hinges typically nucleate in the frame beam and the hysteretic curves generally take on a spindle-shaped morphology.
