Engineering Vibration Investigations in Geophysical Exploration at Construction Sites
Construction and industrial sources of vibrations may create some problems that require implementation of engineering vibration investigation at a site. Structural response depends on intensity and frequency content of ground vibrations, soil deposits at a site, soil-structure interaction, and susceptibility of structures. Vibratory exploration at a site aims the prevention of unacceptable structural vibrations. There are diverse approaches for assessment of expected ground and structure vibrations. Empirical equations are mostly used for preliminary calculation of expected ground vibrations. The impulse response function prediction method predicts complete vibration records on existing soils, buildings and equipment prior to installation of construction and industrial vibration sources. A preconstruction condition survey of structures surrounding a construction site is an imperative addition to calculation and prediction of ground and structure vibrations.
