Numerical Analysis of the Influence of Foundation Pit Excavation on Many Underground Pipelines Nearby
The influence of foundation pit excavation on underground pipelines nearby is an important subject, as complicated construction is occurring at an increasingly rate in cities in recent years. In order to address this potential problem, a numerical calculation method has been adopted to study a typical installation containing four representative pipelines to determine the effect of the proximity of the foundation pit on the displacements and forces imposed on underground pipelines. The following conclusions apply: (1)The resulting displacement of the underground pipelines increases with the excavation depth of the foundation pit, and at an increasing rate. (2)The influence of the foundation pit excavation on the earth pressure imposed on the pipelines is rather complicated. (3)It is therefore difficult to ensure the safety of underground pipelines by means of an underground diaphragm wall only, and other support or protective measures should be considered.
