A Model for Highway Landscape Evaluation
The research presented here constructed highway landscape evaluation indices and a model based on the selected indices. The goal was to determine if these indices and the model, when applied in public-based assessment, could produce results indicative of public preference for highway conditions. Several methods of highway landscape evaluation were first reviewed to determine what limitations existed. From that review, highway landscape evaluation indices were selected and a model based on the selected indices was constructed according to public perception. An on-site study was conducted to obtain public perception of a scenic road using the selected indices and model, statistical methods were employed to test the validity and reliability. Results indicate that the selected indices can fully represent public perception and the highway landscape evaluation model properly reflected the study corridor.
