A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A Critical Review on BIM Research Process and Future Trends at Home and Abroad
Based on Web of Science and CNKI databases, this paper analyzes the current status of BIM research by using the method of bibliometrics. In order to screen all BIM-related articles, periodicals with search keywords as “Building Information Model” or “Building Information Modeling” or “BIM” are searched respectively in each database, and exported in EndNote and Refworks formats. Besides, VOSviewer, a document mapping software, is used to analyze the search results and make it visualized. Following the map of analysis for co-authors and keywords both at home and abroad, this paper systematically illustrated the well-known experts, hot areas, and research prospects in BIM research as well as the problems and shortcomings in the existing research. Through the analysis, it can be summarized that (1) BIM has gained increasing importance in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry; (2) The hot topic related to BIM research are focused on mobile and cloud computing, laser scan, virtual reality, and big data. This paper provides important guidance for BIM researchers to better learn about BIM research area.
