Analysis of Face Stability of Shield Tunnel under Seepage Condition
When a shield tunnel is located below ground water table, the stability analysis of the shield tunnel face needs to consider the influence of seepage. Based on the plastic strain distribution obtained from the elasto-plasticity finite element simulation, a new failure mechanism was proposed for the upper bound limit analysis of face stability of shield tunnel under seepage condition. The pore water pressure and seepage force near the shield tunnel face were obtained by numerical analysis. By including the power of seepage force in energy equations, the face stability of the shield tunnel was studied and the upper bound solution of limit support pressure was calculated. The analysis showed a large part of the support pressure was used to equilibrate the seepage force and the total limit support pressure varied approximately linearly with the underground water table line.
