Microstructure Effects of Strain Localization of Simple Shear in Granular Materials
This paper presents a higher order gradient formulation to model the effect of anisotropy in the deformation in granular materials. The effects of anisotropy are taken into consideration through the modification of the mobilized friction. The latter is assumed to be a direct function of the fabric tensor. The formulation has been implemented into a finite element code and used to simulate simple shear tests on dry sand.
