Framework for Web-Based Highway Construction Geospatial Data Management
As an on-going project, the main objective of this research is to develop a framework for the functional and widely accessible Geographic Information System tools to track information collected throughout the highway construction and maintenance projects in the state of Nebraska. Microsoft's Bing Maps and Google's Google Earth are both being investigated for possible integration with the Nebraska Pavement Management System. A test system has been built utilizing an increasingly large data pool previously created from the past hot mix asphalt (HMA) projects. Different data types including: physically marked locations, digitally marked locations, density reads, moisture readings, weather information, and temperate segregation were linked together using Google Earth that can be accessible from the field or the office. The developed framework is identified as a feasible solution to supplement the existing Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) pavement management system(PMS) with an upgradeable, efficient, and user friendly web-based interface.
