A Brief Review for SMA Pavements in China
Stone mastic asphalt (SMA) is an asphalt mixture composed of asphalt, fiber stabilizer, filler, and a small amount of fine material of with gap grade. Due to its high temperature stability, low temperature crack resistance, anti-sliding performance, waterproofing performance, good durability, and excellent road performance, SMA has been widely used in highway constructions all over the world. In this paper, the history of introduction and application of stone mastic asphalt (SMA) in China has been briefly reviewed. One case study is also conducted to reveal the advantages of SMA.
