The University of Minnesota’s Northrop Memorial Auditorium wasn’t too big to fail‒it was failing, in part, because it was too big. But a $75-million renovation and modernization effort reduced the size of the auditorium, eliminating roughly 2,000 seats, and helped transform the space into a world-class performance venue that also offers new space for activities that are making the structure once again a vital part of campus life.
