Shear Strength of Concrete Hollow Block Masonry under Combined Shear and Compression Loading
With the development of vertical compressive stress, three typical failures of masonry wall under combined shear and compression loading appear in sequence, i.e. shear-friction, shear-compression and diagonal compression failure. Based on Coulomb friction, maximum tensile stress criterion, maximum compressive stress criterion and fuzzy theory, three typical failures can be divided into two shear-compression failure zones, namely the failure zone of shear-friction and shear-compression and the failure zone of shear-compression and diagonal compression. By applying weight functions to put different failures together in a failure zone, the shear strength of concrete hollow block masonry under combined shear and compression loading, which including three typical failures, is presented. Comparative result is shown that the calculated strength agreed well with the experimental results.
