Seismic Retrofit of a Building Using Passive Energy-Dissipation Devices
This paper discusses the seismic retrofit of a building using passive energy-dissipation devices. The design criteria for seismic retrofit was adopted primarily from NEHRP Guidelines for Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings, FEMA-273/356. A brief building description, site constraints in implementing seismic retrofit, reasons for selecting passive energy-dissipation devices, and pertinent analysis/design parameters are presented in the following sections.
