Recommendations for Seismic Design of Hybrid Coupled Walls
The ASCE Committee on Composite Construction (CCC) has been working for two years to develop recommended seismic design guidelines for hybrid coupled walls, which are comprised of two or more reinforced concrete walls connected with steel beams distributed along the height of the walls. The effort is being conducted by a task group comprised of 7 individuals funded by an ASCE Special Project. The recommendations developed as a result of this effort can be used for proportioning HCW systems in zones of moderate to severe seismic risk. This paper summarizes the key features of the document produced by the CCC task group, which is currently nearing completion. Readers should note that at the time this paper was written, the developed document had not yet been reviewed or approved by ASCE and therefore the contents described herein may differ from the final document.
