Additional Force of Continuous Welded Rail on Long-Span Cable-Stayed Railway Bridges
12 cable-stayed bridge numerical models with 600 m, 1000 m, and 1200 m spans are established by the MIDAS/civil respectively in this paper. Four different girder sections are included in each span. The girder sections include truss, orthotropic-truss, box-truss, and box. The additional force of continuous welded rail (CWR) on these bridges is researched. The results show that on cable-stayed bridges which have expansion joints in their free ends, the additional temperature force of CWR is mainly determined by temperature variation and the expansion length of the bridges has small impact on the force. The vertical bending force of CWR on box girder is smaller than truss girders. The transvers bending force of rail on long-span cable-stayed bridges should be taken into account when checking the strength of rail. Uplift forces on assistant piers of cable-stayed bridge reach 49000 kN when trains pass through the bridge with 1200 m span.
