The critical combinations of thrust and unequal end moments for the lateral buckling of I-beams simply supported in the weak plane are derived by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. It is shown that these critical combinations can be used to obtain approximate, safe bounds of the critical combinations for continuous beams and frames.
