Resonance in Pipes having Variable Characteristics
By using the Runge-Kutta Method, the field matrix for a pipeline having variable characteristics along its length is derived. This matrix can be used to determine the resonant frequencies and the frequency response of the system. The friction losses are neglected and a sinusoidal discharge and pressure oscillations are assumed. An example is solved and it is found that results of reasonable accuracy can be obtained by replacing the pipe having variable characteristics by a pipe having piecewide constant characteristics.
