Effects of Slenderness Ratio on Seismic Behavior of Vertical Micropiles
Micropiles are piles with diameter less than 300 millimeters. Because of the small diameter and long length, they may have different behaviour than piles. Since micropiles are used with various length in seismic retrofitting of existing structure; in this study seismic analyses have been performed on two dimensional plain-strain models of vertical micropiles by means of the finite element code PLAXIS to assess the effects of micropile slenderness ratio (D/L) on seismic behavior of vertical micropiles. The results of the analyses showed that the axial force; the shear force and the bending moment decreased by decreasing slenderness ratio. The results show that slender micropiles have good performance under seismic loading.
